Specialization – Psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy

Knowledge, experience and skills in:

  • the general content of training for Sections B and C
  • the prevention, detection, treatment, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation
  • psychosomatic diseases and disorders, including family counseling, drug, and suicide prevention
  • the practical application of scientific methods and recognized psychotherapeutic methods, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy or psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy
  • the indication of socio-therapeutic measures
  • detection and treatment of behavioral problems in childhood and adolescence
  • basics of detection and treatment of internal diseases of psychosomatic require treatment
  • detection and treatment of mental and physical interactions in chronic diseases, such as cancer, neurological, cardiac, orthopedic and rheumatic diseases, and metabolic and autoimmune diseases
  • psychiatric history and physical examination
  • the area-based drug therapy, with special consideration of the risks of drug abuse
  • the detection and psychotherapeutic treatment of psychogenic pain syndromes
  • autogenic training or progressive muscle relaxation or hypnosis
  • implementation of a supportive and psychoeducational therapy in medically ill
  • foundations in behavioral therapy and psychodynamic / depth psychology based psychotherapy
  • crisis intervention under supervision
  • 35 double hours Balint group or interaction-related casework
  • psychosomatic-psychotherapeutic consulting and liaison services


Examination and treatment procedures:

Impartation of the theory:

  • 240 hours in
  • psychodynamic theory, conflict theory, I psychology, object relations theory, self-psychology
  • neurobiological and psychological development concepts, developmental psychology, psychosocial trauma, attachment theory
  • general and specific psychopathology, psychiatric nosology and Neurobiology
  • general and specific neuroses, personality and psychosomatic theory
  • the theoretical foundations of the social, educational psychology and special education and behavioral theory of the pathogenesis and progression
  • psychodiagnostic testing and diagnosis of behavioral
  • dynamics of couple relationships, family and group including systemic theories
  • the theoretical foundations of psychoanalysis and behavior therapy justified psychotherapy methods


Examination and treatment procedures:

  • concepts of management of somatic diseases and technique of psycho procedures and special procedures in the diagnosis of mental and physical interactions, for example, in oncology, diabetology, geriatrics, gynecology, and other somatic disciplines
  • prevention, rehabilitation, crisis intervention, suicide and addiction prevention, organizational psychology and family counseling



  • 100 documented and supervidierte studies (including a history of psychosomatic
  • standardized collection of reports, analytical first interview, depth psychology, biographical
  • History, behavior analysis, structured interviews, and psychometric tests), of it:
  • 20 studies in psychosomatic consulting and liaison services


Types of treatment:

  • 1500 hours treatment and supervision after every fourth hour (single-and
  • Group therapy, including trauma-oriented psychotherapy, couples therapy, including
  • Sex therapy and family therapy) at least 40 patients from the entire
  • A spectrum of diseases of the region with particular emphasis on psychosomatic symptoms
  • including the instructions to deal with somatic and psychosomatic diseases
  • and techniques of psycho-education.
  • Of the 1,500 hours of treatment in either one of two basic orientations obligatory:
  • (either in the psychodynamic / depth psychology treatment methods)
  • 6 individual treatments over 50 to 120 hours per treatment case
  • 6 individual treatments over 25 to 50 hours of treatment case
  • 4 Short-term therapies for 5 to 25 hours of treatment case
  • 10 crisis interventions under the supervision
  • 2 pairs of treatments over at least 10 hours
  • 2 family therapies for 5 to 25 hours
  • 25 cases of conduct psychoeducational and supportive therapy in medically ill
  • 100 sessions Group psychotherapy with 6 to 9 patients
  • (or alternatively in behavior therapy)
  • 10 long-term behavior therapies with 50 hours
  • 10 short-term behavior therapies with a total of 200 hours
  • 4 pairs or family therapies
  • 6 group therapies (different groups as indicative or group problem-solving group), one third as co-therapy
  • 16 two-hour autogenic trainings or progressive muscle relaxation or hypnosis



Selected in the basic orientation, to choose:

  • 150 hours psychodynamic/psychoanalytic or psychodynamic individual self-awareness and 70 two-hour group self-awareness

or alternatively

  •  70 two-hour behavioral self-awareness, individually or in group
