Specialisation – Oral and maxillofacial surgery

Knowledge, experience and skills in:

  • the general content of training for Sections B and C
  • health counseling, prevention, detection and treatment of diseases of the tooth, of the gums, the alveolar processes, including Implantology
  • the detection and treatment of diseases of the jaw, jaw joint and zygoma, including surgical and orthodontic correction of the bite and chewing functions
  • the detection, treatment, and aftercare of diseases including tumors of the palate, the lips, tongue, oral cavity, salivary glands, the nasal, the soft tissues of the facial nerve, including the territorial and regional lymph node
  • the basis of area-based tumor therapy
  • palliative care services to be supplied, incoming patients
  • the indication, implementation, and interpretation of area-based X-ray examinations including radiation protection
  • laser-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • the prosthetic supply
  • the basis of indications for surgical and conservative treatment, including
  • the risk assessment and prognostic evaluation
  • the treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions
  • psychogenic symptoms, reactions, and some-psycho-social contexts
  • the area-based drug therapy
  • the indications, proper sample collection
  • the indications, proper sample collection and treatment of laboratory tests and classification of the results in the disease pattern

Examination and treatment procedures:

  • sonographic examinations of the facial and neck soft tissue and the
    paranasal sinuses and the extracranial Doppler/DuplexSonographien carotid arteries
  • local and regional anesthesia
  • infusion, transfusion, and blood replacement therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • puncture and catheterization techniques, including the procurement of specimens
  • tracheotomies
  • surgical procedures in the dentoalveolar surgery, such as root tip, periodontal measures
  • Septic surgery, such as sinus surgery, salivary cleanings
  • Surgery for injuries, eg. surgical treatment of combined soft tissue and bone injuries
  • Malformation surgery such as cleft lip and cleft palate operations
  • Orthodontic and TMJ surgery, eg osteotomies in skeletal malocclusions
  • pre-prosthetic surgery, such as vestibular plastic, endosseous implants
  • Tumor surgery, such as biopsies, tumor resections
  • Surgery on peripheral facial nerves, such as decompression, nerve transfers, neurolysis, and restoration of sensory and motor nerves
  • plastic and reconstructive surgery, eg. transplantation of skin, bone, and cartilage
  • other interventions related to oral and maxillofacial surgery, such as tracheotomies, microsurgical transplants, including the dissection of vascular connections
  • laser-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

    my friend is studying dentistry at iran and wants to start studying as a specialist in OMFS. how can he get admition from a german institue?
    Does he get a permission to work as clinical work during his study?
